Police Riot At No News Convention
Democracy Now!'s Amy Goodman harassed by little men with big senses of self-importance, and who carry weapons

Seems as though that lacking anything else to do, the St. Paul police must now turn to arresting journalists outside the Republican convention. While the rest of the country was roasting dogs, watching dramatic-scored Gustav coverage and perhaps debating the credibility of our first Reality Television vice presidential candidate, this kind of action was going on in the streets around the Globco Corporation center.

My guess is these helmeted jerks don't listen to National Public Radio, or subscribe to the Pacifca News podcasts.

Consider these paragraphs:

"During the demonstration in which the Democracy Now! team was arrested, law enforcement officers used pepper spray, rubber bullets, concussion grenades and excessive force against protesters and journalists. Several dozen demonstrators were also arrested during this action, including a photographer for the Associated Press.

Amy Goodman is one of the most well-known and well-respected journalists in the United States. She has received journalism’s top honors for her reporting and has a distinguished reputation of bravery and courage. The arrest of Goodman, Kouddous and Salazar and the subsequent criminal charges and threat of charges are a transparent attempt to intimidate journalists."

Amy Goodman is not some hippie crunchy peacenik. She just takes views opposite of the RNC and doesn't work for corporate media.

One needs to ask oneself, where is freedom of the press going here? These troglodytes are enforcing their view by a sharp blow with a cudgel. There is not one good excuse for this behavior, not in 2004 in New York City, and not now.  Haven't seen or don't know if the regular media is paying any attention to this; but if they don't, they're just showing how compromised they really are.

You can read about it here.
